UP

Today I just had to see the 10th Disney/Pixar animated film UP.
Decided to bike in the pouring rain because of busy nights and I don’t think I will be able to watch it on cheap Tuesday.
It was the first time to watch it in 3D.
I felt the movie didn’t need the 3D aspect since its not one of those “in your face” movies.
With every Pixar film, they have a short and it was called Partly Cloudy.
Cute short about cloud people making babies and giving them to the storks.

Overall I really enjoyed UP.
I laughed and cried during the movie.
I won’t reveal much for those who haven’t seen it.
The animation is amazing, colors are gorgeous and storytelling is what you expect with the Pixar team.
Of course there is the intense climax at the end of the film. Made my hands sweaty at that scene.
It another feel good classic film that Pixar has made.
The movie was almost similar to The Incredibles so its a mature theme and also it was the first Pixar to have blood which wasn’t extreme.

Saw the trailer/teaser for Toy Story 3 which comes out on June 18, 2010.
When I saw it I was very excited for it, I know people will be moaning and groaning about it.
Very funny trailer/teaser, you have to see it.
I don’t care what people say, I want to see Woody and Buzz do whatever adventure faces them.

Go see UP.

Skunk problem

The other night, I was coming back home late from an event.
Usually I would bike to Bayshore Shopping Centre since the bus there doesn’t end like about 12am.
Half way biking back home, I noticed something from the grass.
Passing it very closely it was a skunk and its tail was up.
I almost freaked out because was it going to spray me or make that scary sound or bite me.
What to do if we do get sprayed? Does tomato juice really work??

I think with urban sprawling, we are destroying forest land and that is why skunks are around residential neighborhoods to find food.
How should we solve this problem?
What to do if we are confronted by a animal like this?
What’s next wolves coming in the neighborhood too?

June 7th: The New Art Festival

Since 1993 the Central park in the Glebe area (Bank Street at Clemow Avenue, just South of the Queensway) holds a two day event on the park simply called “Arts In The Park“.
I went last year for the first time and being a really nice hot day, I really enjoyed it.
I did see some lovely paintings, photography, crafts and clothing and etc.
Not lucky for me since I didn’t have any cash on hand to purchase any of the stuff.
There was some dancing performance I checked out last year too.
It was nice and interesting.

This year the event will be changed to “The New Art Festival
Saturday June 6th and Sunday June 7th from 10 am to 5 pm

Here are some photos I took at last years “Arts In The Park”:

This has been a interesting day at Ottawa City Hall for this event called Change Camp.
Has been informative for me understanding about how social media can help out the government and other community problems.
ChangeCamp017ChangeCamp021
Sort of met alot of people and some I haven’t seen in awhile.
The food was nice and delicious.

The one session I really like alot was:
Ottawa Freebase
How you wouldn’t get the internet (Basically using Freenet)

Just made me wonder if Twitter and Facebook can really help?
At the end, Social media does really work.
So believe the hype!

Review: Found Magazine – The Demin & Diamonds Tours

May 13th was a fun evening for myself, I went to Raw Sugar Cafe (second time in 1 day).
Attended Found Magazine’s The Demin and Diamonds 2009 Tour.
I went last year at the Avant Garde Bar and was surprise by the turnout.
For those that don’t know, Found Magazine is a magazine created by Davey and Peter Rothbart from Ann Arbour, Michigan.
The magazine is a work of collected notes, photos, and other interesting items and publishes them in an irregularly-issued magazine, in books, and on its website.
Notes can be arrange from love notes, grocery list to insane confessionals.
This year was great and a better venue to hold it.
I think good word of mouth is making this a popular annual event.
So popular that they added a second showing for those that couldn’t make it for 7:30pm showing.
The event was presented by Victoire Clothing store.
Forgot the two ladies names but they were very nice and great in getting Davey and Peter up to Ottawa.

Doors opened abit earlier then expected.
Davey came on and read his favorites.
Everyone had a great time and there was alot of laughter.

Then Peter came on and sang songs that were inspired by the notes they received.
Funny ones and one sad one that dealt with a this woman’s miscarriages.
Of course the last one he sang was “The Booty Don’t Stop”.
Totally hilarious but very catchy.
This woman bought they kid and that kid was bouncing to that song.

Great part when Davey read like a 12 minute story about his mother and how her being deaf affected his life in the least likely way.

I picked up issue six of Found magazine.
Totally funny when I was reading it.
I asked Davy how they read all the mails they receive. He said they have friends and even his mother checks the mails they get.
Also picked up Davey’s book “The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas” which apparently Steve Buscemi will make a film adaptation from it.

Its great that Found Magazine can get people involved in finding people’s lost written work and turn it into something artsy unique.

Go to their website and check it out.
Go and submit/send something you found.
Go check them out in a city near you before July 1st.

Criminal Cocktails @ The Velvet Room

I went to a cocktail kind of social party at the Velvet Room.
The theme was very 1920s and I was told it was the Anniversary for Eddie May Theatre.
Hosted by Jessica Ruano.
Cocktail party @ The Velvet Room
There was a silent auction, wish I could have bidded for something but I didn’t have the money.
Would have been nice to get “The Works” gift certificate.
Apparently there was alot of photographers there.
The host mentioned that there will be alot of “paparazzi” photogs there.
I decided to wear sunglasses so the flash won’t hurt my eyes.
Mostly the photos I took were so of alright and rule of lesson, “Never wear sunglasses in a low lit room”.
Great time socializing with some people I knew, there were the people at Apt613.
Loved the meatballs and samosas.
They had a small preview of Eddie Get Your Gun.
Very funny and interesting.
